Yes You Can! Everything You Need from A to Z to Influence Others to Take Action is the result of my answer to a question that someone asked me. The question was “If fear wasn’t a factor what would you do?”My first instinct was to say I would bungee jump into the Grand Canyon. Instead, I gave a serious answer. I named four things of importance to me that I had been avoiding. One of them was to write this book. I had started it earlier with my co-author, Stacey Hanke, but had stopped for various reasons that had one thing in common—fear. What if the ideas wouldn’t come to us? What if it took more time than I was willing to give? What if no one liked it? What if, what if, what if?
The next day I called Stacey and told her I was ready to write. This book is about being at your best in influencing others to take action. The best way to influence others to take action is to be willing to do so yourself.
What about the three other things I had been avoiding that I referred to in the beginning? I accomplished all of them. I will leave those for another book.
What’s in it for you?
In this book you will learn how to:
Consistently influence others to take action
See yourself as others see you
Change your behavior to communicate at your best
Focus on what is important to your audience
Practice to make any changes permanent
The design
The book provides practical ideas from A to Z. The ideas are grouped in chapters that represent each letter of the alphabet. Use a pen or pencil as you read the book. Highlight, underline, circle or do anything you need to mark sections you find useful. After each chapter there are suggestions for practicing techniques under the heading of Yes You Can! Add your own ideas. This book will work for you not because of the ideas it gives you but because of what you do with them. Ideas do not change a thing; it is only the actions you take around them that are important.
By the way, one of the questions we ask you in the book is “If fear wasn’t a factor what would you do?” How would you answer that question?
